Abstract. In Banach spaces, the time-optimal control problem of a semilinear control system is considered. By nonsmooth analysis and approximate theory, a special approximate equation is constructed, and the properties of the optimal value function are given. The exact characterization for the subdifferential of the optimal value function satisfying the normal cone of target sets and the level sets of the Hamiltonian function is established. These results do not require the restriction of the known results that the semilinear control system should have the contractive operator in the literature.
